At Sunrise Aviation, our experience makes the difference. Chief Pilot Devon Dorato has over 20 years’ experience in professional aviation. In fact, it’s been a lifelong passion. Devon started flying at age fourteen and soloed an aircraft at age sixteen. He now has over 4,000 hour’s total time including Part 135 experience and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Central Michigan University. In addition to his extensive aviation experience, Devon is a highly skilled instructor pilot with a true gift for imparting the all-important principles of sound airmanship and professionalism to our student pilots. Devon is a TSA School Official for the Alien Flight Student Program and primary official for international student visas issued under the United States Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS).

Heading up our satellite facility at Jacksonville’s historic Cecil Field is Billy Walker, a retired United States Naval aviator with over 7,000 flight hours in a wide variety of military and civilian aircraft. During his impressive military career, Billy flew the Lockheed P-3 Orion, the U.S. Navy’s primary anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft. In addition, during Operation Enduring Freedom, Billy was deployed overseas to Afghanistan and Eastern Africa where he logged 800 combat hours and served as a flight deck officer onboard a nuclear aircraft carrier. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Billy has extensive experience teaching both military and civilian pilots including international clients from many countries. As a testament to his dedication to the highest principles of airmanship, while in the Navy, Billy was named “Instructor Pilot of the Year” while serving our nation at Naval Air Station Pensacola – and he graduated first in his class during BE-200 and T-34 training! Billy Walker is the Chief Instructor Pilot, Manager, and Check Airman for all courses of instruction. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University.

When it comes to professional flight training, Captain Bill Orpinuk sets the gold standard of excellence. Bill has been flying for over 20 years and has logged an impressive 13,000+ flight hours in a wide variety of aircraft, including over 2,000 hours of dual instruction given in multi-engine airplanes. He has served as Chief Flight Instructor for an international flight training school and has extensive experience in the management of flight school operations and student services. As a career CFI, Bill brings a wealth of practical flying experience, coupled with a true passion for quality flight instruction that makes our graduates among the best trained and most sought after professional pilots in the global aviation community.
