Sunrise Aviation, Inc. and Shanghai EasyFly Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. have signed an agreement that will bring Chinese students interested in learning how to fly to Sunrise Aviation facilities in Florida. Executives from both companies met in Florida from February 7th to February 16th to discuss the details of the agreement. Patrick Murphy, Sunrise Aviation’s Director of Training, had previously met with representatives of Shanghai EasyFly during a trip to China in September 2011. The Memorandum of Understanding is effective immediately and Chinese student pilots are expected to arrive in Florida within 90 days.

Shanghai EasyFly will recruit the students in China. Sunrise Aviation will help with the selection process including ensuring that the students meet basic knowledge and English language requirements. All flight training will be conducted in Florida. Initially, cadets from China will be trained in Ormond Beach, Florida. However, plans are also being made to train pilots in Jacksonville, Florida at Sunrise Aviation’s satellite operation there. Students in Jacksonville would also enroll in the Professional Pilot Technology degree program at Florida State College in Jacksonville. The students in Jacksonville are not only expected to take the two-year Associate of Science degree in aviation but also to continue on in one of FSCJ’s four-year degree programs. FSCJ’s aviation programs are located at Jacksonville’s Cecil Airport. The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission recently approved Sunrise Aviation’s request for a lease on a new building for expansion of that program in Jacksonville.

Sunrise Aviation specializes in the training of professional pilots and most of the students referred to Sunrise Aviation from Shanghai EasyFly are expected to pursue careers as pilots upon returning to China. However, some of the Chinese students may also just be interested in learning how to fly as a hobby and will pursue a shorter, private pilot curriculum.

The MOU between Sunrise Aviation and Shanghai EasyFly also includes other cooperative services including sales of aircraft and parts. Sunrise Aviation is a full-service aviation business and has been providing flight training, maintenance, parts and aircraft sales to the aviation industry for 29 years. Currently, Sunrise Aviation has more than 50 aircraft available for instruction and rental.

On February 7, 2012, Vinhthuy “Moi” Hoang successfully completed his flight test for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued Commercial Pilot Certificate. Just a few days earlier, Hoang completed all of the requirements for the FAA approved Commercial Pilot Certification Course (Airplane Single Engine Land) at Sunrise Aviation. Since September 2011, Hoang has now completed two of Sunrise Aviation’s FAA approved flight training courses. He now moves on to the Flight Instructor and Airplane Multi-engine Courses.

Sunrise Aviation’s Commercial Pilot Certification Course requires the completion of a rigorous ground school and the logging of 120 hours of flight time. The flight time in the commercial course includes a review of navigation, instrument procedures, night flying and the introduction to flying in a complex single-engine airplane. Sunrise Aviation uses a Piper Arrow for its complex aircraft at the Jacksonville satellite. The Arrow has retractable landing gear and a constant speed propeller. The Piper Arrow is an excellent airplane for learning and demonstrating the flight maneuvers required for a commercial pilot. Seven other students are currently working on completing the FAA requirements to be a commercial pilot at Sunrise Aviation’s Jacksonville satellite.

Hoang is a student in the Professional Pilot Technology Associate of Science degree program at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). Currently nearly 40 students from FSCJ are enrolled in Sunrise Aviation pilot training courses at Jacksonville with that number expanding all the time. Sunrise Aviation is the exclusive provider of flight training for FSCJ and has been working with the college since September 2011.

Sunrise Aviation has recently added a 2011 Piper Warrior and two more Cessna Skyhawks (C172) to the fleet in Jacksonville. Sunrise Aviation now has 50 aircraft in its training fleet ranging from the timeless Cessna 152 to Piper Seminoles and Piper Senecas for multi-engine training. Sunrise Aviation has its main base of operations in Ormond Beach, Florida where they offer Professional Pilot training to both international and domestic students.

Captain Alain M. Cuvillier met with the Director of Credit for the Institute for Training and Human Resources Development (IFARHU), Isaac Valencia, to obtain the approval of the government institution to provide aviation student loans to future Panamanian flight training students. After a successful meeting, future pilots can now obtain their full student loans via IFARHU as Sunrise Aviation is now an approved school under the IFARHU loan program.

The IFARHU loan program are educational loans to Panamanian students for higher studies in Panama and abroad. The loan covers the cost of education (flight time, tuition, books, materials, equipment, laboratories, etc.) and maintenance (lodging, food, transportation), earning an annual interest of 3%, 4% and 5% on the balance. Students may have up to ten (10) years to repay, depending on the program. For more information, go to the IFARHU Website.
